So What's New?
Have 'Blog' Will Travel
Living abroad can bring many new experiences that are often worthy of comment so I have started a blog called the 'Perpetual Expatriate.' Take a look and if you feel inclined to respond to it, please do. I welcome feedback.
July 2009
For the past few months I have been a regular contributor on World Radio Switzerland on Conor Lennon’s show called “The Wrap”. Each week I talk all about Expatriate Life. Although being an expat in Switzerland in the main focus of discussions, the issues will probably apply to many of you, whether you live in Carcassonne, Caracas, or Colombo. 'Trailing spouses,' going home for the holidays and many other subjects are covered. You can listen to the programmes again online here
Every year in July in Nyon, the town I live in, is host to Paléo, a fabulous (and one of Europe’s biggest) music festivals. Paléo is also one of the most environmentally friendly events in Switzerland. I have been reviewing the concerts and writing about the festival on my blog
Also, I have an article all about Paléo called “Nyon: from the Romans to Rock” in the July edition of Swiss News, the lifestyle and business magazine. You can read it online here
April 2009
It’s been nearly a year since I started writing a blog called “Living in Nyon,” all about the town I live in here in Switzerland. It has been a great success, with visitor numbers increasing every week. These visitors are Anglophones that live locally and want to find out what’s happening here in their own language. The site also has readers from all over the world who are about to move here and they want information on finding a school, renting and buying a property or working and living in the Nyon area.
Through the site I have been interviewed on TV, featured in L’Hebdo magazine, in the Tribune de Genéve newspaper and I now have a weekly “Living in Nyon” English column in La Côte, the Swiss local paper. I am also an affiliated blogger for Swisster
I have held Living in Nyon 'spin offs,' such as evening events where readers of the blog can meet each other and newcomers can ask questions.
My other blog the The Perpetual Expatriate is still going strong, this blog is a more personal take on expat life and has posts from travels in Syria, Washington D.C, Italy, Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil, and commentary too of course about daily life in Switzerland. One of my photos from the blog of a celebratory cake with a design of Barack Obama (that I took at a U.S Democrat’s Abroad - Presidential Inauguration ceremony party in Geneva ), was then featured on the BBC News website. Other writing see published work
July 2007
In July I wrote about seeing Van Morrison, Solomon Burke, Candy Dulfer and Seal in concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival
June 2007
Other articles have ranged from interviews with local radio presenters on World Radio Geneva, to the retirement of the headmaster of the Geneva English school “End of an Era”
I wrote about the half price Swiss train pass and whether it was worth purchasing and I covered “Neighbours Day“ in Nyon.
I also wrote about an innovative new idea called idrate
This is a project to encourage everyone who can to drink more water, whilst helping those in the world who don’t have enough water to drink.
Geneva Lunch goes from strength to strength with more visitor numbers each month.
April 2007
In April I covered the International Documentary Film Festival (Visions du Reel) here in Nyon. See one of my reviews on the film “Manufacturing Dissent - Uncovering Michael Moore" or a review of Sonic Mirror, a superb film about the world of rhythm with drum legend Billy Cobham.

February 2007
My blog is now on the "Guardian Abroad" website
There are some interesting and amusing expat blogs on there. My favourite, under 'most original blogs,' is Blogzira
November 2006
I am now writing for a new community website here in the Lake Geneva region called Geneva Lunch.
On it I write about local issues and contribute to the Friday interviews. I also have another blog on this site called “Notes from Nyon” the town where I live.
As Michael Schumacher is retiring just a few miles down the road from Nyon, my latest blog takes a a wry look at the irony of where he chosen to live. Read it to see why! It’s called 'Life for Schumi after the chequered flag has gone down for ever.'
